Privacy Policy for DailyFret
Last updated: July 1, 2026
Ashik Bhandari ("I", "me", or "my") built the DailyFret app. This page explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your choices.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, DailyFret collects:
- Email address (for login)
- Name (for display)
- An encrypted password
Practice Data
As you use the app, it records your practice progress — such as your streak, experience points (XP), per-skill mastery, and daily practice sessions — so it can track your improvement and personalize your practice.
Microphone
Some features (the tuner, Play Challenge, and Play-a-Scale) listen to your guitar through the microphone to detect the notes you play. This audio is processed only on your device in real time to detect pitch — it is never recorded, stored, or sent anywhere.
How Your Data Is Used
- Practice progress: Stored on your device. If you sign in, it is also synced to our backend server so it is backed up and available if you reinstall the app or get a new device. It is used only to provide the app's features.
- AI Coach: When you tap "Ask your AI coach," a summary of your practice stats (skill mastery percentages, streak, and level) is sent to our backend, which uses a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a personalized practice suggestion. This summary contains no personal identifiers beyond what's needed for the suggestion, and is not used for any other purpose.
- Songs you add: Chord charts you paste into "My songs" are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded.
Data Storage
- Local data: Practice progress and your personal songs are stored on your device using standard app storage. They remain on your device even if you never create an account.
- Server data: If you create an account and sign in, the following are stored on our backend server: account credentials (email and encrypted password), your display name, and a synced copy of your practice progress.
Data We Do NOT Collect
DailyFret does not:
- Record or store microphone audio
- Use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs
- Share or sell your data to third parties
- Track your location
- Access your contacts, photos, or other personal data
Data Security
- Passwords are encrypted using industry-standard hashing (bcrypt)
- Authentication uses secure JWT tokens
- All communication with our server uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections
Data Deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all associated server data directly in the app: go to Settings → Delete Account. This removes your account, profile, and all synced practice data from our server, and clears your practice data from the device. You can also request deletion by contacting me at the email below.
Children's Privacy
DailyFret is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to This Policy
I may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
